ABA Assessment — Mapping the Hero's Path

Every hero's journey starts with understanding — and giving you, the hero parent, the clarity and confidence you've been searching for. Our BCBA-led in-home assessment uncovers your child's unique strengths, needs, and goals so we can build a personalized plan that celebrates who they already are.

What to Expect

A careful, family-informed evaluation.

We know that getting to this step took courage. Maybe you've been putting it off, or worried about what an evaluation means. We want you to know: this is a discovery, not a verdict. We're here to find out what makes your child extraordinary — not to define what they can't do.

The Hero assessment is not a test — it is a conversation, an observation, and a collaboration. We spend time in your home, where your child feels most like themselves, and we listen deeply to what you share.

Our BCBA reviews developmental history, conducts play-based and structured assessments, and identifies the skills and supports that will help your child thrive. Every detail informs a treatment plan built around your family's goals.

FAQ

Questions about Hero assessments

What happens during a Hero assessment?+

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) visits your home to observe your child in their natural environment. We review medical and educational history, conduct structured and play-based evaluations, and talk with your family about goals, strengths, and daily routines. The result is a clear, personalized treatment plan.

How long does the assessment take?+

Most assessments are completed across one or two visits, typically lasting 2–4 hours total. We schedule at times that work best for your family, and we pace the process so your child feels comfortable and safe.

Do parents need to be present?+

Yes — parents and caregivers are essential partners. Your insights help us understand the whole hero. You are welcome to observe, ask questions, and share what matters most to your family.

What comes after the assessment?+

Within days, your BCBA shares a comprehensive treatment plan with goals, recommended hours, and a timeline. Once approved, we match your child with a dedicated behavior technician and begin heroic in-home therapy sessions.

Will the assessment be stressful for my child?+

We design our assessments to feel like play, not a test. Sessions happen in your home, at your child's pace. If we need to pause, we pause. Your child's comfort is always the priority.

What if I get emotional during the assessment?+

Please know — this happens, and it's completely welcome. Many parents feel a mix of hope, grief, love, and relief during this process. You are safe to feel all of it. Our team has sat with many hero parents through exactly this moment.

ABA Therapy & Autism Support

What an ABA assessment unlocks for your family.

A thorough ABA assessment is the foundation of effective ABA therapy and meaningful autism support. Led by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the assessment translates your child's strengths, communication style, and developmental needs into a personalized treatment plan with clear, measurable goals.

Because Hero specializes in in-home ABA therapy, the assessment also happens at home — in the space where your child plays, learns, and feels most secure. We observe natural routines, talk with caregivers, and use structured tools to identify the skills that will unlock the biggest gains: communication, social connection, self-help, school readiness, and emotional regulation.

From there, every recommended hour of therapy, every goal, and every parent training session is built around your family. Most major insurance plans cover ABA assessment and ongoing therapy for children with an autism diagnosis, and our team will guide you through eligibility, authorization, and next steps.
